Parnassomatic: 21C Premiere Contest Submission

    In Parnassomatic, I demonstrate a real-time counterpoint engine and visualizer I created with Max/MSP/Jitter. I play a melody on the keyboard, and the computer generates two other parts, loosely based on rules set out in Johann Joseph Fux's Gradus ad Parnassum, a famous 18th century treatise on counterpoint. For visualization, the frequencies of the three parts are plotted against each other in 3d space as I play. The piece illustrates both the charms and difficulties associated with computer-aided composition.
