One of the challenges faced when controlling parameters within Ableton Live using generative or automated means is achieving long-term complexity. We wanted to try and solve this problem by building a device called 'Plecto LFO' that produces a variety of non-linear oscillations which can be mapped to any parameter in Ableton Live. A type of neural network is used to produce these oscillations and can maintain long-term variance in its output. These oscillations are also deterministic, meaning they can control loops with the same effect every time.
This device is powered by a web app which can be used to explore and preview a range of neural network configurations that can be added to your profile and synced with the M4L device (no downloads required). The M4L device also comes pre-loaded with a default profile so you do not need to create an account or have an internet connection to use it. Plecto LFO is free and can be downloaded from: www.plectomusic.com
