The performer selects and reads a rich and meaningful text that will evoke strong emotions. The performer begins the piece by reading the selected text silently. When the performer self-recognizes a change in emotional state, he/she presses a button, either digital or analog, that activates the Wine Glass Device (ArduinoMega+Bluetooth). Carefully placed stereo microphones record the sound which is then processed using Max and the performer’s real-time pulse rate data to influence tempo and stereo delay. As an option, the recorded sound can manipulate a video projection of simulated water using Max. This enables the audience to hear and see the internal emotional changes in the performer. An authentic performance relies solely on the performer’s ability to read an emotionally moving text with introspection. The piece concludes when the performer finishes reading the selected text. As such, this work provides a minimalistic avenue for expressing emotional state changes.
