Simple FM with Molecular Dynamics
A simple FM synthesis patch was built around the gxo.md Max/MSP external. Kinetic energy variations of a system of liquid argon were used as carrier, with a classic waveform as modulator. The gxo.md external is a tiny coarse-grained molecular dynamics (MD) simulator written in C. The MD data is dispatched via buffers or outlets. A few raw sounds generated with this approach can be found in the project’s account on SoundCloud.
Max is an excellent environment to glue chunks of C code together, to the point that you can even have an MD simulator sitting between your favorites audio objects.
