The ‘custom looper’ is one of those classic Max projects that is a rite of passage for most audio-curious Max enthusiasts. At some point, we’ve all either built one or used one of the many legendary looper Max patches posted on the forums. I’ve tried my hand at it myself on several occasions. The beauty of the looper as a focus of Max patching is that everyone has an idea of how it should work and there are many examples to look at for reference.

At a certain point though, if your dedication to the art of live-looping is strong, you might hit an impasse where patching with standard Max objects won’t get you all the way there. Rodrigo Costanzo is one of those fellows with a strong and public devotion to the perfection of the loop, and he got another Max user, Raja, to help him build the perfect looper external. The result is the karma~ external, a varispeed all-in-one live looper object that has a whole pile of features to delight the loop-lover in you.

karma~ is a looper/sampler external for Max. It is a dynamic length, varispeed looper with some complex features that are explained in detail in the accompanying help file.
