4 sounds files to different output channels
I am building an installation that will have 4 audio files, and I need to send each one of this files to a different output of the soundcard.
My question is, how can I send one sound to a specific output of the soundcard?
Another question is, I am thinking in using a cheap soundblaster 5.1, how can I have access to the 5 outputs of the soundcard?
Thanks
If you look inside DSP settings in your Max Options there is a dialog called IO settings, this is where you tell Max which physical outputs to use; so Max outputs 1-2-3-4 could be physical output 4-7-2-8 depending on your hardware. Look also at the helpfile for the [dac~] object.
5.1, no idea
Brendan
Thank you Brendan, what soundcard do you advice for this?
There are as many choices as there are users!
Depending on your budget you could go high (RME) or low (MAudio) price - I went for the middle ground: MOTU 828.
It would also depend on your preferred platform (Win/Mac, USB/Firewire, desktop or mobile)
Ask yourself the following:
How many ins and outs will I use REGULARLY?
How portable should the soudcard be?
What is my budget?
Am I prepared to continually update drivers or perform reinstalls to deal with bugs/issues, or do I want to set it and forget it? (This is occasionally an issue with budget soundcards).
If I had the money right now, I'd try the RME Babyface.
Alesis recently brought out a compact USB multichannel interface, looked quite tasty, but i didn't research user-reviews or anything so it could be utter pants.
Good points to be considered!
I have one M-Audio Quattro here with me, and I will give it a try.
Thank you so much
