5.1 usb devices not detected

Hi there,

I'm trying to let max/msp see my Altec Lansing 5.1 USB system
The 5.1 is connected to the USB indeed and recognized on the Audio-Midi setup of OSX and, of course, set on multichannel.
It's supposed to be using the CoreAudio and in fact it works with all the other applications doing whatever sound, including quicktime.

When I use any sound -- > dac~ xxxxxx in Max It only addresses it to the stereo channels of the laptop's speakers, completely ignoring the USB interface/system.
So nothing comes out of the 5.1 system but from the little speakers of the MBP and Max seems to be the only application doing this.

I tried to run the AudioTester patch in the Tools of Max
and it doesn't seem to recognize more than the internal 2 channels.

I also tried using a small Hercules 5.1 USB sound interface and it does exactly the same , therefore I suspect it's something with the USB sound devices and MAX, not sure though.

I was wondering if there's any other (manual) way to configure max so to see and address dac~ to the USB system.

Any idea?
