a coupla Sfizz questions
Excited about the possibilty of replacing sfplayer~ with native Max objects, but...
1.At the moment sfizz only loads single .sfz files. Are there any plans for it to be able to load banks of sounds (sf2 format files)?
2. I’ve exported one of my GM banks of sounds (using polyphone2) and one of my own sample banks to individual sfz files. sfizz will not load any sounds from either set - saying
[sfizz] Loading failed
(sample name): something went wrong while loading.
I also tried a single already-sfz file that I had previously downloaded and got the message -
Unsupported control opcode: hint_load_method
Changing default sample path to ../
The first loading issue is more important to me, as I have several sets of sounds that I use in my main patch that are all in sf2 format, that I would like to export to single sounds from which I can then build menus to load into sfizz.
The Help file directs me to a couple of info sites, but that’s not really that useful when what i need to know is where the polyphone exported sfz files are likely to be differing from what the sfizz object is expecting.
Is there a specific default structure for sfz files that sfizz will load that I can compare with what polypone is putting out? And does this mean I’m going to have to individually edit all the sfz files (or is it perhaps a single export setting in polyphone)?
Thanks for enlightenment!
Or any other specific info that would help me sort this out?
Hi David,
I would definitely recommend the resources available from the open source sfizz project which sfizz~ is based upon.
We aren't likely to support features beyond what the sfizz engine provides in the sfizz~ object. However if you find that you are able to load the files in the vst/au plugins that project provides, but does not work in sfizz~, please let us know.
As to files not loading, it would be helpful to provide a link to an example file and its sample dependencies so that we might investigate further.
My first thought with the sample not loading message is that it could be exporting the sample to a file format which we do not support, but obviously this would be clearer if we had an example to examine.
ok, thanks. I think that’s going to have to wait till later this week as I’ll be working away from home, and travelling tomorrow.
Here (if I can figure out how to attach ) are an sfz file exported from a GM sf2 file (from a download) (BRASS Trumpet.sfz) and one exported from a bank I made myself in polyphone (claypots.sfz)
???? Well, I clicked the paperclip and selected & uploaded the files. But where are they????
If you can upload to a location and post a link to the files, that could be helpful.
I'm attaching a zipped text file in this response just to test, but if it works, it could be that even with zip files if they are over a certain size, the file is rejected.
Thank you for providing examples when you have a chance.
Ok, I’ll try zipped. I won’t be able to do that for a few days though. Running a school workshop next week, and driving there tomorrow to set up.
No need to bother upoading soundfonts (.sf2) files,
they have nothing to do with FSZ format which is
the only one supported by Sfizz.
You have to either convert sf2 to SFZ,
or use fluidsynth~.
Yes, thanks. That”s what I’m going to do.
