A first peek at Max 7

As I write this from an airport terminal somewhere in the world, we are hard at work finishing the Max 7 release. The last weeks before a release are

oh do the patchcords still bounce when you turnoff the curved option?

The cord bounce is an interesting UX decision. It obviously "confirms" a connection and does so playfully. I'm curious to see it in action. Would you guys ever be willing to explain your UI/UX decisions with the new version?

I'm excited with the new release and the future of Max for Live. Such a great news while waiting for the release of Live 10. Hopefully MAX 7 will bring many fresh and new things.

Funny video btw :) http://youtu.be/tvRoE89VW-I

The chord bounce is a bit Reason 2.0.

I'm more concerned/interested in the completed redesigned UI.

+1 to Raja. Wiring entire planets seems like the way to go !

I hope in max8 they’ll let us switch views to see the back panel of objects. I bet max objects look the same whether facing front or back, but still >;D

Raja, I gues they will look the same (only horizontally inverted), but more importantly, will they work the same? What about right-to-left ordering while in back view? I guess I'll have to rely more and more on the [t] object... ;-)

Hope it runs on Snow Leopard or I'm screwed.

Bad Luck Cycling74:

Completely works over UI and a ton of other things - everyone talks about bouncy cords.

Seriously though... Sam, if you're watching: I NEED YOU TO UPLOAD THAT SAW~  BACKGROUND! NAO! :D

Jitter-Cycling-guys: Could we... get a teaser of the new openGL? I'm salivating right meow.

yes!, about opengl very interesting! Well, the hint though, when? and what version of opengl is used in max 7?

the new gui is smooth, but i will miss the oldschool minimalist boffin-chic of the current one, and the way it makes me look smart even when my music sounds dumb.

I think I just find the bouncy thing curious from a UX perspective. Did they do research that suggests this helps the experience? Is there some critically thought out reason for adding this effect? If so I'd love to read that research. If not then it was just done for fun... in which case, I don't know.

Holy hell, 7 looks like a real paradigm shift. O_O

If I was a 3d artist I'd knock up a cool impression of Max in a 3d space. Please can someone do that :)

Yup, show us more of that UI! At first glance looks nice 'n slick to me. A lot more 'modern' than the current.

And euh, thanks for the mushroom teaser. The oFx/Touch Designer folks will clearly takes us more seriously now ;)

Oooh. Lookit. Shiny!

Shadows and jitter world.
Seriously show me 5 seconds of real time shadows with two basic primitives and I won't sleep until release.
Oh, and DOF without 6 shaders would be cool as well.
Just saying.

that could be a cool way of scaling and resizing objects in the program. like in some 3d editors you hold modifier(s) and use the scroll wheel to move the object forward and backward in 3d space (scale) or swivel (stretch).

yeah, i'd like to know too. i feel like springy mentally cues me to slow down what i'm doing and pay attention to that because my natural reaction when things i plug in start vibrating is to worry or at least wait for it to stop!

i honestly find it slightly creepy to model physical behavior like that w/o sound. maybe if there was a "boiiiing" fx. lol ...i guess don't even understand the metaphor...my patch cables in real life don't do that...it'd be like when placing objects in the patcher ripples spread out around them...hmm, that'd be kinda relaxing. :)

oth, it could be a good sign of other visualization or interface options. like to work with stringed instrument models? lol

because of the ways the eyes work i wonder how well some kinda subtle change in color or colored glow that fades out at the input and outputs or the cable itself would communicate that a connection was made, if that was the intent of the effect...

anyway. my only serious comment is a lot of the interface usability stuff seems like it could/will be great in use and the video made me laugh.

lol ^^

no, really, i mean if max should become a useful tool for composition one day it needs the INTERACTIVE PHRASE SYNTHESIZER.

so let´s hire charly asap.

IPS was pure fun :-)
i should hook up my atari again.
how i could forget the IPS.
thanks roman for this hint !

No multitouch no party. Well waiting for max9, maybe then we have multitouch support.
