Ableton does not recognize MAX! Please Help

Hi list,
I installed Ableton Live 2.5 with Max 5.
When I try to open a Max for live file in Ableton, this message appears:
"Max is either not installed or is installed to a
not-default location"

When I choice the right path (Application/Max 5), it says:
"Failed to set the Max path to /Applications/Max5/. This
directory does not contain a usable version of Max."

This is very strange because I have an original Max 5 version
which works fine (NOT runtime) and everything works in my
desktop computer, with the same software version!

Could you help me please! Thanks.

Max for Live requires Ableton Live 8.2.2 or higher.

I recently tried to help a client who had the most recent Windows versions of Max and Live installed and observed the same problem. Live was not able to detect Max. I noticed that both application had ended up in a folder called Program Files (x86), yet moving them to Program Files didn't change anything. There wasn't even a button in the preferences folder that would have allowed him to set the Max application.

That is incredible!

Is there another guy who get the same problem?

I discover the latest Live versions need at least Max 5.1.3. Live do not works with older Max version.

I just downloaded Max 7.2 and have Ableton 9.6 Standard. I have no "Max Application" section under "Live -> Preferences -> File/Folder", as mentioned above.

3.5 years later, same problem. Did @georghajdu@mac.com ever find a solution to not seeing this preference setting where I can even tie the 2 applications?

and i have the same problem as well! no answer from anyone yet. Running latest version of Live Standard (currently 9.7.1), purchased a monthly subscription to Max, installed Max, which is supposed to contain Max for Live, opened Live Prefs, nothing about Max at all in the File Folder area. i unchecked the box for Max to run in 32 bit, i've uninstalled Max, re-installed, followed all directions to a Tee... I'm an old Pluggo user, i have Pluggo Runtime installed as far as I can tell.

Oh and I Re-authorized Live, and i authorized Max from within the Max app itself per some instructions i read somewhere. been trying to figure this out for 2 days, to no avail.

WTF, Over

Max for Live works with the Live Suite. You all *are* Live Suite owners, right?
