Adding a visual to a MAX patch

I have a Max patch (using Windows) that reads live incoming ASCII data and updates every minute and then outputs to the synth-

My question is how do I create a visual patch that goes along with the sonic output?

I am a bit of a newbie so I am not sure which program to use or which patch points to access the signal and how to hook it to the visual program

Thanks in advance for any help-

There's a million ways to approach this. You might wanna start from a creative idea and work out the technology from there, not the other way around. Make sure to check the Jitter tutorials and when you've got the basics check Andrew Benson's Jitter Recipes on the C74 site. That should get you started.

Anyone care to take a stab at the original issue on this thread? Taking sonic output and making it visual?
Thanks in advance-

...it's still way too broad a question - what do you want it to look like?

Have you done the jitter tutorials yet? Because I don't think you can go through that and NOT get ideas for your project.

Anyway, you can derive control data from audio data -just about any part - using things like snapshot~ and others - that can be connected to just about anything in Jitter-land.

Thanks for replying- It is not audio data it is ascii data which triggers audio at the very end of the chain- I would like to take the data somewhere along the chain (it goes to excel on the way) and use some plugin which creates a moving visual- Is that any clearer?

Not really, I'm afraid - because this is all jitter does; take some input, use that to control an image.
