advanced synthesis tutorials ...

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any online advanced syntehsis tutorials where you make something that goes beyond fm and am and additive, subtractive synthesis?

It would be great to boost my synth making skills. I like physical modelling, but also example of some nice acrobatics with the general msp objects in max would be great.

Thanks ahead for your inputs,

K

Hi
I guess that the wealth of sources that you are about to be inundated with will be broadly split into two types: general principles of analog and digital synthesis, and; specific MaxMSP-centric tutorials.

It is the former category that will arguably produce the most "hits", and is largely down to personal taste/background/skill-level. As a developing n00b, sources I continue to refer to are here:

Sound on Sound's extensive series on synthesis:

Christopher Dobrian is currently collating a vast archive of MaxMSP tutorials which you should check out once they're complete.

As for specific Max tutorials in Advanced Synthesis techniques, there are only a few in the bundled documentation and examples - I'm guessing your looking for step-by-step rather than "here's an example"? I've found the Socratic approach to learning about this topic suits me best, hacking the work of others, badgering the forum for help, then reiterating. The recent addition to Max of [gen~] has thrown up loads of new possibilities, it's almost impossible to know where to start. But the Search button above right might be a good start :)

Good luck
Brendan

ps "acrobatics" LOL
