[ann] Bonk3~
Miller Puckette and I are happy to release Bonk3~, and updated version
of Bonk~. It's pretty configurable, and I find better results with
this than the previous version. Don't ask me what happened to Bonk2~,
we're still figuring out how to deal with it emotionally.
For right now it is available on my site at http://www.barrythrew.com/software/
, and should be available on Miller's site at some point in the not so
distant future. There is a make file for pd there as well. Works under
Max 4 and 5. Source is there because thats how I roll.
The object is complied for Mac UB, and will compile for Windows,
although I haven't done it. If anyone does, send it over and I will
include it in the package. My general M.O. is not to care about
Windows until forced by Adam Smith's invisible hand.
Ted Appel also did some work on this, and Ben Bracken stumbled upon
the solution to a strange bug I had. Mad props.
Please send me bug reports. There probably are some.

I use Bonk v1.3 a lot so thank you for this latest version...
Matt
Thanks for this update !
Bonk~ has always been of of my favorite max objects !
the "debouncedecay" (Minimum time (msec) between attacks) parameter
doesn't seems to work better than in previous version ... : any value
> 0 just makes bonk3~ ouput nothing.
or maybe I misenderstand how to use this parameter ?..
(macbookpro 2.3ghz / os10.5.3 / maxMSP 5.02)

about debouncedecay :
if debouncedecay is set to 1 :
bonk3~ only ouput a new bang if new attack loudness is > previous
attack loudness. so very quickly, you reach the maximum and bonk~ stop
ouputing new value (or you'll probably end by breaking your
percussion / mic trying to play louder and louder to trig bonk~ !).
I don't think that this behaviour match the description of this
parameter : "Minimum time (msec) between attacks"

Thank's for bonk~ update,
I'm trying to compile the object for windows, but i got an error message :
missing plus~.c file (and plus~.def) in the folder .
Could you add these files ?
thank's

Thanks for doing this...
And as you are into this bonk~/fiddle~ business, may I ask the question?
As far as I know, both bonk and fiddle~ do a fft on the signal. Would it
be hard to create a version which would run inside a pfft~? Often I need
that kind of analysis and have to do an fft on the same signal. To avoid
to do the fft twice, I could imagine to deliver the fft'ed signal inside
a pfft~...

They aren't needed...the visual C file just isn't correct....that is
just the template that ships with the max sdk...
you'll have to set up the vc++ to find the requisite files
yourself...i don't have access to a windows machine and vc without a
good deal of work, that i'm not going to do because i don't personally
care that much right now.
if you give me like 4 months i'll probably have to eventually, but it
isn't at the top of my docket.

Yeah, that seems a bit off. Will research.

Thats a good idea, but I doubt I get to it for awhile.
Someone else is welcome to tackle that from the source. I would give
it about 4 months before I can think about it really.

I looked where bonk3~'s supposed to be and it's not there anymore:
Fortunately, I found it in my archive but it's OS X UB, of course -- has anyone compiled it for Windows?
Thanks.
I would also find a version of bonk which works in windows and max5 really useful
i found bonk3 via google cache and built a windows version if anyone wants it
can I get the OS X UB version off of anyone? bonk~ is a major component of my patch.
I think that bonk3~ just became bonk1.4 upon release. (1.4 is still mistakenly labeled 1.3 when you load it in the max window, but is 1.4 on the site). I could be wrong about all this.
And can be found here:
I am on OS X 10.5.x and have been using bonk1.4 no problems.
