I am working on a patch that involves comparing an array of lists to the first list in an array. the problem I am having is that the numbers are approximate. I've been looking for an object that might, say, return the array in order of those lists which are most similar to the first list. Does anyone know of a good tool to compare lists apporximately?

most similar means abs(element n of first list/elements n of other list)

i would do it in several steps, each performing simple calculation. 

first make lists of difference-to-first, then turn the 3d array for 90 degrees so that you have one list for all 1st elements and one for all 2nd elements, the element with the smallest difference value can then be found using [maximum]
