Are there any books on Max or Max4Live? If not, how come?

I'm trying to find useful (e)books on the subject and I'm realizing that the options are limited. Unless I'm mistaken. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good resource guide a book? I'm not asking for help files or tutorials. Ideally I'd like an e-book I can carry around with me.

Manzo's book is on Kindle, I read it a few weeks ago....excellent for beginners and some useful tips for those further along as well

Manzo's book and the Cipriani/Giri book:

…are the two main texts that are out. They compliment each other well. MMJM is geared towards creating systems that deal with traditional music with things like music theory and pedagogy in mind, while EMSD is more about sound design and audio processing.

Another good text that is not Max specific but rather uses Pd is Andy Farnell's "Designing Sound."

The Manzo text is the only one in ebook format.

Great thanks. I have to ask though, why is there a lack literature on the subject? I tend to prefer edited, sometimes physical, organized publications for studying so that's why I'm wondering.

Not a book but may as well be -

also I really liked the PD manual loadbang it has a lot of examples in it and PD is lower level so understanding PD would probably help more with gen.

@audiolemon, interested to see your first link, but it appears to be inaccessible, is it an institutional site?
