Audio Effect with Midi Control

Hello, I'm have an audio effect, and i'd like to control the parameters via midi ctrlin messages from max. If I have the effect loaded in an audio track, and i click the edit button I get the ctrlin info, but when i close editing it in max, then I don't have that anymore..

Anybody know how to do this?
thanks,
bryan

The common solution (workaround) is to have a separate midi device on another track that receives midi input and sends it via send/receive objects to the audio device.

Sorry for bumping this. Is this workaround still the only way? No hybrid tracks or direct access to Midi ports?

You can, as of Live 10.something, route MIDI directly to audio devices. its similar to how the extra audio channel routing works in the “Audio Routes” package (search this site).

easiest way to set it up is to just put a midiin in your audio device and then configure The output of a midi track to point to your Track and Device.

It seems I can't select an audio track with my device that contains a midiin object as target for the Midi output of my Midi track. Is this new in Live 11?
I read about Audio Routes, which seems to work exactly as my Midi Route devices and thus still needs an extra device in the Midi track. That works fine.

Ah, yes I misspoke, I'm sorry. It's Live 11 for the MIDI Channel routing things in Max for Live: https://www.ableton.com/en/live/all-new-features/
