Automated Sampler

I'd like to take in portions of audio from a live audio stream (via external mic) into a sampler device and have all the parameters (like root key, looping, etc.) set automatically. The idea is to have the patch sample and set parameters periodically without any human input - while MIDI data is then playing these samples.

This was originally posted in the Max for Live forum but it sounds like it isn't possible to automate the loading of a sample into Live's Sampler - so now I am thinking Max is the way to go.

Are there any existing patches that come to mind that do this? If not, any suggestions of whether this is possible/how to get this to work would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi again. You'll be dealing with a different set of problems trying to get it to "integrate into already playing music" if you switch to max, to be honest. So while the core concepts can still be discussed here, I think it should be max samplers, but loaded in maxforlive, still.

Start by going through the msp tutorials. I think they give you a good grasp of which core objects to use for most things.

Then do specification. Do you want it to be monophonic? Should the sampling be in stereo? That sort of thing.

At the end of that process you'll have some specific questions for the stuff you haven't solved. That's where we kick into gear.
What I *Can* tell you right now is that there isn't a turnkey solution for this. There isn't a set of patches you download and then this just works.
BUT there are bits and pieces - in the help files and online - all over the place that can help you greatly.

I appreciate the suggestions for getting started - I'll head back here once I've refreshed myself on the basics and have more specific issues to solve.

I'm trying to do something similar. Did you ever figure it out/ find helpful resources? I'm sure there's loads of new stuff out by now, but I'm still curious and would appreciate any help!
