basic stamp and max

hello. i'm helping out an artist with an installation where she is using a
remote control and a basic stamp. different buttons pressedon the remote
control will trigger different events in max. the basic stamp will be
connected via usb, and i will be using max and jitter to create output.
first off, i wondered if the serial object will work to bring messages from
the stamp into max (even though it's actually usb). this is the first time
i've worked with a basic stamp (though i'm not coding the stamp), and i
wondered if anyone could offer up any helpful advice.
