Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt - No input in Jitter!

Brantiko's icon

Hi!

I just got the Black Magic Intensity Shuttle to grab some live video in Jitter.
After installing the drivers jit.grab is able to see the device BUT there is no video output. Just black!

Any ideas why this is not working? I am using syphon so far to get the data but I am not much into GL stuff and there are some (known) problems getting the data from GL to jit.matrix when using syphon. The bigger problem is that I need to deinterlace the input which is not possible with syphon.

Hope to find someone who can help me.

Hey
what OS are you using?
And have you tried it with the BlackMAgic Media express software ( it installs with the drivers ) ?

Hi!

I am using Mavericks!

I installed the drivers, thats not the problem I guess. I can grab the input with Black Syphon but not with max.

Hi

There seems to be a big problem with quicktime under maverick and the intensity shuttle, I have been in contact with Black Magic support trying to solve this but they have not been able to figure it out.
It works perfectly fine under Mountain Lion and Windows.

I'm using Yosemite and Max7.
So I couldn't use "Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle" for video capture.

Hi, same problem here.

Yosemite 10.10.5 and Max 7.0.6. on a new minimac.
no input with jit.grab, even though the capture device shows up in the "vdevice" menus.
"native" blackmagic mode doesn't work either.
("jit.grab: Blackmagic device – EnableVideoInput failed with result -2147483639")

any news in this regard ? did anybody here find a workaround or solution ?

the funny thing is, that the same hardware works fine with the same OS and MAX version on a macbook.
on the blackmagic site i also couldn't find any dedicated "drivers" for the "Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt".
Is there some secrect knowledge that i'm missing ?

BTW: capturing with "BlackMagic Media express" works fine !

all hints appreciated !

please take a look at my replies in this thread:
https://cycling74.com/forums/blackmagic-capture-card-and-max-7-0-4/

specifically the following :
"i’ve noticed errors when you first select the non-native Blackmagic device, and select the native Blackmagic device. try restarting max, opening the example patch i posted above, and then selecting the native device from the vdevice list. please let me know if that works."

i did ... still the same error ;-(

but maybe i got something wrong here. when i create a [jit.grab] object, does it connect to a default device, that's a wrong one ?
could that be the reason, why your approach is not working ?

i always thought that unless you send the message "open" to a [jit.grab], it's not doing anything, but i am probably wrong here.

maybe it's just one of those nasty "bad voodoo" things going on ... (a missing library, wrong OS version, wrong hardware ...)

anyway, i managed to make a workaround with the BLACK SYPHON approach (thanks a million to the vidvox people and vade !)

thanks a lot for your reply, anyway !

did you try sending settings message to jit.grab, then selecting the appropriate video input manually? for me this is necessary since by default wrong input (HDMI - first in the long list) is selected.

Rob Ramirez's icon

the "settings" message is not available with the default avf video engine.

DOPYHAL, jit.grab will not connect to a device until you send the "open" message. i will have to get some more details from you to offer any more help. OS version, Max version, Blackmagic driver version, type of camera, and exact steps you are taking, starting with "launch Max".

hi, rob !

i will do so as soon as i am able to get my hands on the hardware again (next week), with as much technical info as possible !

thanks a lot for your help !
