bonk~ learn mode?

I am a relative newbie looking for some very basic help on how to use the bonk~ learn mode to create templates for multiple percussion instruments. How does one:
-create the templates
-apply this in a patch; i.e. what happens when bonk~ identifies instrument A vs. instrument B? Does this send a bang?

Many thanks!

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

create the templates: send the message learn 5, then hit each drum 5 times. Learn 0 to get out of learn mode
apply this in a patch: out of the right hand outlet comes a list of three elements each time a hit is detected (ID, Amplitude and ??)

Just a heads-up if you're using the built-in microphone: your keyboard/mouse-clicks may show up and this can mean some accidental drum "learning".

And - as with color detection under widely varying lighting situations - don't expect your patch to necessarily perform best when you go from the training you did with your little built-in mic to a live stage with a line feed from FOH (sorry. Front of House). The seasoned professional always adds a little patchlet to calibrate bonk~ when you first set up. Heartache will probably lie in wait for you on any other path.

Thank you all! We'll see how this goes.

Just looking over this: while using bonk~ in Max (both 5 & 6) I have been having trouble getting it to write or read a template, (or template.txt). The message keeps appearing: 'templates.txt: couldn't create'

Any advice on how to get this to work?
Many thanks in advance!
