Buffer overrun

After working happily, MAX/MSP/jitter is refusing to run, providing the following error message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Buffer overrun detected!

Program c:Program FilesCycling '74MaxMSP 4.6Max.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue and must now be terminated.

I noticed that this has happened before and following the thread (original message: #105674 - C++ runtime error), I downloaded the PACE drivers from http://paceap.com/dldrvr.html, since MAX/MSP runtime is running properly. However, this has not fixed the problem, even after re-installing everything.

Incidentally, I do not know if this is related but it seems to have happened after the latest Windows XP automatic upgrade.

Please advice on how to get MAX/MSP/jitter running again.

Computer specs: Pentium 1.6 GHz, 2Gb RAM, Windows XP Home, SP 2

Thanks
