building vinylcontrol~

Has anyone had any luck building the vinyl control external from karhumusic in osx.

Im not very familiar with the osx terminal and im having trouble building flext. Specifically I dont understand the syntax used in editing the paths in the config-mac-max-gcc.txt file.

If anyone can offer any assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the same boat as you. I just figured out how to use subversion to get the flext files (i think), but I still have a lot to learn before I'll have a working external.

I'm surprised no one has uploaded a compiled version for anything other than linux yet.

It sounds like you're farther along than I am, but if I get it figured out, I'll post what I learn.

The lack of this tool may be related to the use of Ms. Pinky in the Max world.

a search for "vinylcontrol" would have taken you here:

i mailed the original author the max and pd binaries (osx) at that time, but obviously he didn't update the site.
and since i have no access to the right gear to test it properly or develop it further, i don't want to host the externals myself.

so, if anyone wants to give the osx version a try, here you go.

Thanks alot Volker, I really appreciate it. Any way you could please build it again for 64 bit? Or maybe provide instructions? Thanks alot man, great work.

hm, this is really old, and i was never sure it worked properly, as i have no equipment to test it.
also the lib it uses (xwax) has moved on quite a bit, so i don't see the point in updating the original sources to 64 bit.

this morning i had a quick go on trying something out with current xwax (1.5) and managed to get it going somehow.
but i don't really know, how the system is working and, as i said, can't test it myself properly.
so i guess, this is still very unfinished, but if you want to try it out nonetheless, you can find it here: http://vboehm.net/xchange/vb.vinylcontrol~.zip

Thank you so much! The 32 bit has been working great for me, and has been a huge help in a few projects. I really appreciate this

Hello!

Does it work on Max 7? Thanks!

volker böhm's icon

i don't know, as i don't have max7 - wouldn't know why it shouldn't work, though.
but it's easy enough, so why don't you try it yourself?

Hey Volker, can you upload the link again? It looks like the link is dead :)

And friends, could you test it with Max 7 64 bit, is it working properly?

volker böhm's icon

it's here by now:
vboehm.net/maxobjects/vb.vinylcontrol~.zip
this is a 64bit vesion, but it's old and I never had a proper vinyl to test it with.

Thank you Volker!

Hi there ! Thank you for your .mxo of this external but could you help me in finding / building a .mxe to use it on Windows system?

I know I am late to the party but thanks for the work. Volker, Is there any chance that this could ever work on Max 8? I downloaded it from here https://github.com/v7b1/max-thirdParty_externals but although the patch opens, the object itself doesn't work. Thanks in advance

volker böhm's icon

It does work in Max 8. The link you posted is the link to the sources.
It sounds like you might be missing the actual binaries (mac and win) - find them here:

Thank you so much, that did the trick in terms of the patch.

Now I am trying to run it using the Rane SL1 soundcard for Serato with the Serato control CV02 vinyl, but my adc~ object is not seeing the inputs at all. Serato Scratch Live runs fine through the soundcard so I am guessing all the drivers are there. Any ideas why this might be?

Circling back, I found that the Rane SL1 did not have the drivers that would let you use this patch. I managed to get Traktor sound card (Audio 8dj) and it worked. The patch using signal is definitely a lot smoother. Does anyone know if there is a max object that lets you control playback position with an Audio sample, similar to what you can do with jit.movie using the message time_secs $1? I've looked in sfplay~, groove~ and play~, with no luck.
Thanks
