Buying Max/MSP from seller who isn't authorized?
Ok, I found a copy of Max/MSP that is new, but it's not one of the authorized sellers listed on cycling74's website. Somebody on ebay. I would want to upgrade to version 5 when it came out. I just emailed cycling74 and asked if they would give me the upgrade free, no matter who I bought it from if it was new and they sent me an email saying that I should only purchase from an authorized seller. They said specifically not to get it on ebay. Are there any Max/MSP users who have been using it long enough to tell me roughly what the upgrade prices tend to be like? If I can get it really cheap, it might be worth it just to pay for the upgrade, but if the upgrade is $150 or $200, it's just not saving me any money.
Thanks

If you buy MaxMSP from an unauthorized reseller, you will not be able to
register or authorize your copy of Max, ever. You will also not be
allowed to upgrade your copy of MaxMSP, ever.
So basically, you are probably buying something that is absolutely
worthless. The only way to know for sure is to contact us directly. I
strongly encourage anyone considering buying our software on Ebay to
contact our sales staff and be sure that what you are buying is going to
be a valid copy.

I've been trolling ebay for max/msp for a while now, I'm glad I didn't buy anything. I just didn't realize what the policy was. I thought new Max/MSP was new Max/MSP, no matter where you got it, so long as it was a not pirated, which you have to watch for on ebay, but I've bought plenty of software that valid on there by being careful.
Thanks
