Call out for Eye Gaze instruments?
Does anyone know of music software that is well disposed to being played only using Eye control or 'Eye Gaze'? I'm doing some work with Bram Harrison a.k.a DJ Eyetech, who is paralysed and has 'locked in syndrome'. He controls a computer using one eye (to avoid double vision) so options for direct computer control are limited because the accuracy of his MyTobii EyeGaze computer system is not very good. Consequently he needs to be looking at big targets. Ideally I'm looking for some simple music software that he can use:
- independently (i.e. not a front-end to Ableton, cos he can't access Ableton himself)
- to play sounds in real time
- to sequence & record
If you're interested, there's more info about the trials & tribulations of trying to find decent EyeGaze music resources on the Drake Music forum
Many thanks!
Doug
Not exactly what you're asking for but you could have a look at Motion Composer: http://www.motioncomposer.com/
It's aimed at disabled people all the way down to the ones that can only move their faces. I've seen it in action and it's damn precise. I don't think it 's capable of just eye movement but perhaps a custom version could do it.
Purely off the top of my head, in no particular order of relevance I would say Hyperscore, Smartlab.ie, Adam Boulanger. Apologies if these are red herrings, my entire work is centred upon musicians with quadriplegic CP. And I'm throwing out random answers to appear knowledgeable . .
Please do add me to any mailing list etc related to your work. I'd be really interested in this.

And what hardware/software does Jason Becker use?
In terms of low-cost hardware, the eye writer and Pupil projects are my recommendations.

Many thanks to you all for your recommendations! I'll try and remember to post here again when we've made some progress, but will also be posting updates through Drake Music: http://bit.ly/16E3fn6
