Can anyone explain the basics of vdb?

Im aware that it's a variable delay (something???), which allows a user to change a tap delay's time without clicks or pitching....but can anyone expand on what it is and how it works a bit further?

I've used [ej.vdb.sig~] which is great and does the job i need, (thanks ej), but i'm not sure what it's doing or how it works so if anyone can take the time to explain it a little bit further for me i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
John

vdb uses 2 buffers and continioulsy switches between them,
similar to how granular timestretching works.

if you dont get what sah~ does in vdb, the helpfile might give a clue. :)

Exactly. Basically, changing the position in a delay line may cause a
click or transposition. (ej.)vdb~ just uses 2 delay lines to change
the delay position of one of the delay line while the other is
playing. The crossfade between the 2 delay lines gives the impression
the move is continuous.

Thanks for bringing my attention to this abstraction - Wow... What an
amazing and amazingly simple abstraction that is! Yay!
Emmanuel, you have GOT to put a Paypal donation button on your
website.... SOON.

Andreas.

Thanks for the suggestion ;-) I'll take some time to do that then ;-)

Thanks everyone and apologies for the late reply.

I'm in the middle of my finals and it can become easy to lose sight of the woods for the trees.

Special thanks to ej too, your abstraction works like a charm.

Thanks again all,
John
