Can I use the GoPro to record video?

Can I connect the GoPro Hero 3 camera with Max to record video? The version 2 did not allow live feed, but this one does, so I am wondering if I can connect it to Max.

you will need some kind of HD capture device (eg blackmagic intensity)
search the forum for "HD capture" for lots of info.

But simply connecting the camera to the computer will not work right?

The GoPro Hero3 does not allow you to stream video over standard wifi networks as of now. You'll need to use an HDMI capture card like Rob suggested. I use a BlackMagic Intensity Pro PCIe card.

Yes, but can I connect over USB? I do not need a WIFI stream, by cable is OK for me.

They have small industrial cams with HD resolution like gopro, but will work to stream video as a webcam without the need of a capture device. I have used them to connect either Firewire or USB direct to a Mac and my Mac instantly rcognizes it, also Max recognizes it as a video source as well. The catch is you have to purchase the camera and lenses separate so you can take on and off different lenses wide angle and telephoto etc. This does give you more flexibility though, I think they might also have auto focus lenses that are built in some models just like gopro though if you choose. they also have USB3 at high frame rate and UHD which is better than gppro, but uber expensive for those models.
