Can't Set To/From Max/MSP virtual sources

When I select the Options>Midi Setup I see all my in/outs, including Bomes virtual ports and USB midi devices connected, but I do not see the To Max/MSP and From Max/MSP in/outs as described here:https://cycling74.com/docs/max5/vignettes/core/max_and_other_apps.html

I also can't see them in Ableton Live.

I have a demo version (not yet registered) on the PC.

I'm trying to recieve MIDI from Live, process it, and send it back.

I know I must be doing something dumb and I feel stupid for asking (i searched the forums and google but found no answer, it seems like it just works normally)... was there an optional install process or something that I failed to do to install the max/msp virtual midi ports?

Thanks! (and again, sorry for the dumb question)

I use MIDI Yoke in order to get MIDI signals to send between programs.

I havn't implemented it with MaxMSP 5 yet but works wonders in communicating with GuitarPro 5, Reason and Ableton Live. It just creates several Virtual MIDI connections (about 9 or 10 in fact) which you can route to your programs. I will try it out as I have just reinstalled MIDI Yoke again (XP version will work on Vista but not sure if it will work on Windows 7).

You can find it on the first search result of Google when you type in Midi Yoke.

Hope this helps

PS. If it works all you need to do is send the audio from live to Max through one channel and then send it back through another channel. This may mean that you have more channels in use than you would just bouncing it back to the same channel. I shall do some experimenting later when I have some time.

Yeah, that would probably work, and I'm pretty sure I can already do that with the bomes virtual midi devices as well... but I'm wondering specifically about the default Max/MSP virtual in/outs.

Aren't those supposed to be present by virtue of my installing Max on my computer?

If not, how do I install those? (Are they Mac only? Why aren't they showing up when I setup the midi options in Max?)

Yes.

Ahhh. That explains it. Thanks!
