Capture cards for G5 PCI Express
Hello,
I have a powermac G5 Dual Core 2,3 GHz.
I'd like to buy two video capture cards to use with max/msp jitter.
On this G5, the cards should be PCI Express Cards.
I have seen this two cards which works with this powermac G5 Dual Core
(Aurora Fuse-X, AJA Kona LS), but i don't know if it's ok with max/msp
jitter.
Does someone has information about this cards or other cards.
Thanks a lot,
Matthieu.
I've been using Alchemy TV cards on a G5.... woks well, without latency
you can use up to 4 cards at the same time...

I'm using a decklink card.
Most popular for editing on the g5. But doesn't handle 2 cards at the same time yet on the mac platform.
I was using an external quad split box to get 4 half-size video inputs in. That worked pretty well.
They have an HD card too.
In fact, i'd like to use two cameras at the same time, so to handle 2
cards at the same time.
Do you know if there's any cards who offer this possibility on mac G5
(in PCI express)
Is your external quad split box a good thing for that. And does the
video resolutions are good.
Thanks
Matthieu.

What's the best way to handle 2 cards at the same time on a G5 dual
core with PCI Express slots... is it yet possible?
Does someone use an Aurora Fuse-X cards?
Thanks,
Matthieu.

quad split box lets you get 4 inputs in at the same time, but at quarter the resolution. So 360 x 288 in PAL.
Depends on what you're using it for. I think there are some issues with quicktime addressing 2 of the same at the same time. A bit like the sound card issue. But I could be wrong.
Decklink have got 2 cards working in the PC apparently. But not Mac yet. And no siogn of them doing so. Been looking at HD cards plus a box that tiles multiple SD inputs into a single HD feed.
But not cheap. More of a broadcast solution.
If someone's got jit.qt.grab working with multi SD cards on the mac, this will be much cheaper.
The only reason to recommend Decklink is that it's by far the best card for FCP editing. It's the one most video facilities use. Outsells the others 10 to 1.
But if you're just using it for grabbing, maybe go cheaper option. Unless you're using broadcast cameras.
Bah, Aja has such better support, and the Kona 3 is the shit. Ill
call up AJA today and see if they support multi card setups on the Mac.
Sorry, off topic, but Decklink has really irritated me with their
support, we've been burned in the past.
