Change MIDI instrument
Hi everybody,
i'm a little bit new to the MIDI protocol.
I would simly like to change the instruments recalled by [pgmout]. Is there a way to to that? I'd like to add my own sounds.
Thank you in advance,
Luca
Here are some useful [umenu]s and [coll]s mostly taken from one of the MIDI players in Karlheinz Essl's RTC-lib. I've included one for regular channels and one for the default percussion channel too. You might also want to check out [fluidsynth~] which allows you to play a whole range of sound fonts too.

thank you so much. umenus saved my life! ^_^
But now i am wondering if there's a way to build my own set of sounds and place them beside the default's one (like a second MIDI sound library). Is that possible? I must confess: I don't even know where those sounds are placed Is it a system-dependant issue? PS in that case, I have a mac.
thx!
I think the MIDI sounds are part of QuickTime. Sound fonts are probably the way to go if you want to improve on the MIDI sounds, check out the fluidsynth link in my previous post. What do you mean by "build you own"? Sampling? Synthesis? Check out some of the max tutorials on these subjects if that's what you're angling for. There are some good patches in the max examples too, go to Extras > ExamplesOverview from the main menu bar and explore.

Digging deep in the crates, Barry! :)
