click sound=dc offset? how do i remove it??!
Hello guys. Here is a kick drum patch i'm trying to finish off. Im running into a problem, however. I get a loud 'click/pop' sound at the start and finish of the sound. Its a very simple patch, and ive tried a bunch of things already to remove this click. I tried filtering, and I tried using the RTC-lib 'remove-DC~' object (though i may have used it improperly), but i cant get rid of this click.
Does anyone know for sure where the click is coming from? Is it from the ~gate that I've used to control each hit?
here's the patch. Really, any help would be enormously appreciated.
The problem seems to be coming from the [gate~]... In this simplified version of the patch the click is gone...

first, Doc-Op, thanks for your fix... yo are right. when i remove the gate~, the pop goes away.
But, with out the gate~, the kick drum continues to emit a sub-audio sine wave after its been 'hit'. I can tell by looking at my mixer, and by feeling my speakers vibrate.
So for all human ear purposes, you're fix is perfect.... but i imagine there's got to be a few reasons why its not good to have a constant inaudible signal running though a patch. can anyone help there?

Curse my human ears... they lie and tell me a problem is fixed when it's really not (it doesn't help that my tiny BX5 monitors won't even come close to putting out those sub-harmonics)
Anyway... the reason that you were getting the click was because opening and closing the gate was abruptly cutting off the cycle~. My quick fix fixed your clicking problem at the expense of an "always on" cycle~
The real fix is to put a volume ramp between the cycle~ and the output. When you click the bang to make the kick sound, you'll need to do something like this (in roughly this order):
- make sure that the volume is set to 0.
- open the gate~
- quickly ramp the volume from 0. to 1.
- trigger your envelope
- ramp the volume back from 1. to 0.
- close the gate~
I don't have to time to wire this all up right now, but hopefully this will get you started...

And if you do the envelope as described, you won't need the gate anymore...
