clicking noise..
hey,
I'm sure this is a basic question, but whenever i use the dac~ object.. i recieve an odd constant clicking noise along with my generated sound. This even happens when running the most basic of MSP tutorial patches.. does anyone have any ideas on how to stop it? It happens through both speakers and headphones, in case that is relevant.

Try increasing I/O buffer size and Signal Vector Size in the DSP Status window in the options menu (plus other settings in there)? Change the "performance options" settings also found in the options menu? Check for updated drivers for your laptop's sound card? Try an external USB or firewire soundcard and see if it goes away? Quit other apps? Reboot? Scream? Close the "annoying_click" patch that is running? ;)
..not sure if this will help..but...turning wirless networking off in windows xp on my macbook pro sorted out all of my audio dropouts and clickings when working in windows..

allmost, but it could also be a mismatch of sampling rates. the cheapest
samplerate conversion is to skip samples if there are too many... Most
cheap internal soundcards operate on 44.1 kHz, just verify that the
sample rate you use in Max is the same as your soundcard expects...

things i know make audio "snap and pops" with max
1 don't use the Audigy 1 sound card. IT's nothing but poooo!!! it snaps like
a mofo with max. the newer drivers for it are just as poooy.
(also it gave me the weirdest bug my computer has ever had, some how it
still plays through all the sound files from this game i used to play (
neocron) even though i've not played that game for over a year. and have
hunted all the files from that game down in the regedit. it only happens
sometimes, but when it does i have to restart my compy)
second. i've always had problems with ALL audio apps if i have a wireless
open.
make sure you have at least 3 gigs free on your hard drive, make sure your
virtual memory is set to the correct amount. 1.5 times your ram ( or is it
2x)? i can never remember ( dont wana look it up right now)

Thanks for all the replies.. very helpful. I can happily say that turning off my wireless and, as suggested, turning off my annoying_click patch made the click disappear.. thanks!
