Collective size limit?

    Hi all,
I'm trying to build a collective that includes a LARGE (4 GB and
change) folder of sound files. My computer has been thinking about it
for more than a half hour now. The rainbow ball is spinning when Max is
active, and Activity Monitor tells me that it's chugging away using most
of the CPU. How long should I wait before I give up? Is there any size
    limit to a collective?

Although it's a slightly more tedious process, it'd be quicker to
build the collective from the Max patchers only, and put any asset/
media files in place in the application bundle afterwards.

I may be completely wrong, so correct me but, I don't think Max is
allowed to create a file larger than 2 Go because of the CFM wich
      uses 32 bits memory allocation.

There has to be a better solution to your problem. 4GB is a pretty
damned big file, moving it around is going to suck, and you had better
hope that max doesn't load the entire file into memory at once because
4GB is the upper limit for total memory an app can use.

I would recommend offering the samples as a seperate bittorrent... Is your application a rompler of sorts? is it possible to assign samples outside of your library? wouldn't it be easier to build a file browser that let you pick samples, with your collection seperate? seems like its more hell than its worth, and I doubt many people would enjoy dealing with such a large file :/

noone ever made a program before which is 4 gb long, now why is that? :P
what would happen if you tried to open such a program? ...

It's an attempt to get into the Guiness book of records...
