compiling apps - Icons
When I compile an application, how do I change the Max 5 icon to one of my own design?
I'm using mac os x leopard, when I right click on my compiled app, I can open the 'package contents' and then enter the resources folder where the icon can be found, however if I replace 'Max.icns', it just changes the appearance of the icon to the standard mac osx application .icns.
I also tried pasting my image over the top of the Max 5 image, but the Max 5 image just pops back up as soon as you save, or sometimes seems to replace the .icns as a .gif which doesn't work either.
I'm probably making this a lot harder than it needs to be!
can anyone help?

It's pretty easy...just not terribly well documented. (This is on the Mac, btw.) When building your app in Max (via "Build Collective / Application..."), click "include file" and select the icns file you want to use. Change the "include" header at the beginning of the line to "appicon", then continue with the rest of the build process. For me it's the easiest way to handle it (on a Mac, at least). Otherwise you need to edit the info.plist file after the app has been compiled so it uses the correct icon (I believe it is the "CFBundleIconFile" attribute). But again...the "appicon" method is certainly the easiest for me.

Cheers,
I tried this and the image has been included in the package contents as an .icns under the app name, but the icon appears as the mac OSX standard
I'm a bit scared of that CFBundle stuff to be honest, however I did look over it and I couldn't actually see anything referring to the application icon, the CFBundletypeiconfile commands are there for things like max binary and patcher files, but thats all I can see
I found an alternative method that seems to have worked though, I opened the 'Get Info' on the compiled app and simply copied the image over the top left most image in the browser! this worked at least when I transfered from my laptop to the mac in my office.
thanks again for the response
