Connecting a hardware Synth

Hello there I am completely new to Max, im just curious if someone can help me as I dont understand much about the capabilites and uses of the software..

I am looking to somehow connect a hardware synthesizer to the computer and have the musical notes/frequencies recorded somehow in shape and colour. For example each note played would relate to a specific colour and octaves and changes would influence tonal qualities of notes etc. The idea is to produce flat images from the recorded music. Its sort of experimental notation.

Can someone let me know if Max a program which would allow me to do this and if so does anyone have any info on where to even start a project like this using Max

Cheers!

This is completely possible with Max and you could take any number of avenues to achieve this. A great place to start would be with the jitter tutorials.

With some basic understanding of Max it wouldn't take alot to be controlling light/color etc. with your synth.
