Controlling a Roland JP-8080
Hi, I'm currently building a Max/M4l device that has controls for all parameters of the Roland JP-8080.
Most of it is very straight forward, as you can control all knobs and sliders with midi cc messages.
There are however a few functions that I'd like to include too, and they do not respond to midi cc.
For example the waveform selection for both VCOs etc.
I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not it was possible to address these functions from within Max.
Thank you so much in advance!
You have to read system exclusive implementation to see if parameters you are interested in are accessible that way in real time.
If JP-8080 can receive that control, then it is possible to send it from any software,
including Max, that can send sysex.
If you know nothing about sysex, hex to decimal conversion, maybe even checksum calculation for that device, it could become quite a challenge to get it done.
Hi, Dino. Just to complement Source Audio's post:
The System Exclusive implementation is described from page 199 onwards (English manual).
In page 203 there's the "OSC1 Waveform" parameter.
thank you both! very helpful indeed! That's all I needed.
