convert audio device to midi device

Hi there

How can I convert an Audio Effect to a Midi Effect?

I've got a patch that controls other things within Live. When you drag it on to a channel in live, it appears like an audio effect (in other words, it is added to the end of the audio effect chain on that channel). However, the patch does not actually process any audio. In the patch, alongside all of the other objects, there is a plugin~ which goes straight to a plugout~

I assumed that the plugin/out objects were what Live uses to determine that this should be treated like an Audio Effect, so I deleted them and replaced them with midiin/out objects, but the device still appears as an audio effect. I actually want it to appear at the beginning of a chain on a live channel. Any idea how I can do this?

Sorry if this is really basic - but I'm struggling to find this info.
