I'm currently working on an interactive installaion working with Arduino Uno, Max/MSP and Modul8.

So far I've got the digital signals in Max/MSP, but I'm wondering if adding ftom is all there is to convert it to Midi? Is there anything else I have to do?

The ftom object only outputs the middle of three MIDI bytes comprising a note on message (assuming that is what you want to create).

Adding a velocity byte at the end and letting the midiformat object add the status byte is one way of creating a complete MIDI message.
