CPU usage 45% at idle

All of a sudden Max/MSP is showing 45% CPU usage at idle - literally right after the app is loaded, with no patchers or anything else loaded.

This is as reported by 'top' in a terminal window. Can anyone explain this? It certainly wasn't this high before, and there's no explanation from what I can see.

Machine is a Dual 2GHz G5, 4Gb RAM, OSX 10.4.9

I found the thread and tried getting rid of the java folder as it suggested but it's had no effect. Thanks for the pointer though..

At a certain point, as enunciated in the problems with Java thread, I get the spike: situation doesn

i've had issues using certain audio driver configurations that cause things like that. i'm not sure if that's what's going on here, but it would be worth looking into.
my problems mainly centered around ASIO configurations on windows that use multiple sound cards...

Just for saying I have the same problem.
It appears sometimes, I still didn't understand when.

I experienced this with poly~. It appears that instances within a poly~ are
born un-muted. I loadbang a mute message on launch and my CPU load goes
back to normal.
