CPU Utilisation Peaks (?) kill Audio - what can I do?

I'm not quite sure if this is a problem with Max or with the audio interface, but since I really don't have a single clue what might be the reason, I'll first post it here.

My problem is: I run a quite complex Max Patch. Now sometimes it happens that the sound stops (although Max seems to work fine and to send audio as usual), and instead I hear an annoying sawtooth-like tone that won't stop until I close the patcher.

You can find a recording of that mysterious tone here: http://www.martingruetter.de/fehleraufnahme.mp3 (it begins after a couple of seconds).

What can that be?

I've got the suspicion that this phenomenon is somehow related to sudden peaks in the CPU utilisation, because it most often occurs when a new patcher is loaded by the patch.

Is there anything which I could do to avoid that? Could I somehow limit the CPU utilisation, or anything?

I've to perform with that patch in a concert in 5 days, so I'd be very very grateful for answers!!

hmmm , its hard to say really :/ it sounds like processing is freezed , hangs but without debugging or posting the patch no one can help u i guess . there might be many circumstances that leads to the problem .
it might be also that the patch is working as you programmed it , and this sound is a part of the processing it does ,you just leading to some conditions that appears as this result . hard to say :(
