Creation of .xml file when loading audio?

I'm using an external USB soundcard (sweex 7.1), and I want to play a different sound clip for each channel. Therefore I created a small patch (see attached screenshot & patch) which loads in an .wav file (using the 'read' button) and when turning up the volume (using the volume slider) it plays it using the corresponding channel (after setting the DSP setting correctly ofcourse). It works, but there is a problem though....

Every time I load a .wav file, Max/MSP seems to create an .xml file for that music clip (same filename, but instead of .wav it is named .xml). I don't actually know why, but they are just there. However, very often when I want to load a music file the clip simply doesn't load, I can't play it back, and there is no activity on the audio channel.

When I check where the .wav file is located, I also don't see any xml file being created. Sometimes it takes up to 20 times of re-loading the same audio clip, before it's really in the patch that I created. Once that happens the corresponding xml file for that file somehow appears as well. So for some reason the .wav and .xml do have a link I guess, but I don't know what the connection is. I just think it's weird that some clips load instantly, while others need 20 tries to succeed. I was hoping you guys could tell me what's going on?
