Cycle samples with midi note input

Hi,

I posted this to the Ableton forum aswell.

I have a specific thing I want to be able to do.

I have recorded a poem and I want to be able to play every single word one at a time on my midi keyboard. With or without pitching the word according to the played notes.
I found this guide to using Sampler to do Random sampling:
https://www.musicradar.com/how-to/20-ab ... ve-to-know
And this is close, although what I want to do is to cycle through the samples for every note, and not randomly select the samples.

Perhaps you have some ideas?

Thanks!

If you drop your recording onto a midi track in live you will be given the option to slice it into banks in a drum rack. simpler also has a slicing mode that is similar.

Only way I can think of would require you to press two notes on the keyboard, if you want to change the pitch combined with a round robin sample playback mode.
1. Put your words (samples) into a sampler and adjust the key zones so that every note triggers only 1 sample. Insert the Random midi effect before the sampler. Chance = 100%, Choices = number of your samples, Scale = 1, Mode= Alt, Sign = Add. Now you have round robin playback.
2. Midi-assign a range of maybe 24 keys of your midi keyboard to the Transp slider in the Pitch/Osc section of the Sampler to be able to change the pitch of the next word.

You use a midi note outside of this range to trigger the next sample and you use the assigned notes to change the pitch.
Do you understand the idea?

It is not allways easy to properly guess what is the exactly meant.
Probably because we all have things crystal clear in the mind,
but putting it into words so that everyone gets exactly the same picture
is not everyones strength.
I thought that Simon wants to cycle through a list of samples every
time a key is pressed, and that note number only makes transposing factor.
If for example middle C is defined as pitch = 1, then one would
hear the current sample at original pitch, if case of D4 then 1 tone higher.
Playing next note would trigger next sample in the list and so on.
Is velocity needed ? And Looping till key released - or just one shot ?
Something like that can be done fairly simple

I understood the request exactly like you're describing it @source audio. And I think this is a good solution without the need to build a m4l device or something. He could press C3 for example repeatedly to cycle through the samples. And can define another range on the keyboard that does the transposing without triggering any sample.

Sure, that's giving enough options, it all depends on gimmicks one wants
to use.
I thought that only one finger approach would be so simple to use

First patch I uploaded had a little mistake - 1st sample in the list
was left out from preload. Here is the fixed patch :

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

Hi all,

Thanks!

What I want is exactly as descibed by @source audio. So a cycle of samples and not randomly chosen samples.

I tried to find a step sequencer with a manual "Next" button that I could assign. I would then use a scale plugin before to make every note transpose to e.g. to the note C4 - and then map C4 to control "Next" - but that would limit me to 16 words if the step sequencer had 16 steps, and I didn't manage to find a step sequencer like that. I have Max for live - but I guess I don't have Max then aswell? So I guess I wont be able to compile your code @source audio... :(

Didn't know that it is possible to use the Random to make a sequence - will experience with this later today. Thanks!

I will compile for You whatever You want, just let me know

I have a round robin device for max for live that may do what you want. The main idea is that you use one midi note to cycle through a series of midi notes of your choosng, most simply like c,c#,d,d#'etc.
It's called AdRoRob and is the 2nd device on my gumroad page. It's an old beta but I haven't heard any problems from anyone else using it. There's a help image included to show you the controls. Hope it does the job!

MOOTER, I just checked AdRoRob and WOW! I have been looking for exactly such a gizmo for two months now. I almost gave up and lo behold. I will get it once more just to pay for it this time!

I have a small question. Although the info says I can midi map the reset button to a midi note I can't seem to do it. Any help that would be the cherry on the sundae. :)

It has been a while but i am on the same page here. Is there a tutorial for adRoRob? I've placed it on a midichannel, but i can't seem to find out how to let it know what midi notes to play with the incoming note?

Hi guys, also looking for a solution similar to adRoRob does any on this list of Midi piano offer similar cycling solution directly include in the product or do I have to use an external solution like a DAW ? I would like to buy a new one with more possibilites as my old one is starting to have some problems. I'm using notes and samples to recreate ambient sounds to relax and study.
