Cyclops 1.3 UB Crashes Max/MSP
Hi,
I am running the demo of cyclops on a Mac Book Pro 2.16 GHz Intel
Core Duo (built in iSight) and have the two following behaviours:
(1)If no external camera is plugged in:
I add the cyclops object, open the help file, click 'settings' and
the max/msp crashes. I have the crash log, but can't find a suitable
support channel for cyclops to send the crash log on cycling 74's
website. I'll post it here if that is the done thing - but it is long.
(2) When I plug in an external firewire isight:
I add the cyclops object, open the help file, click 'settings' and
the built in isight light greens-up, and we have action. Go into the
'settings' and try and change the source to the external isight, the
selection is active, but springs immediately back to the built in
isight.
Additionally, is Cyclops supported in the same way as max/msp and
jitter with tutorial files and samples? I am in the process of
evaluating it to recommend it to students who haven't used max before.
Thanks for reading, any help would be great as my demo days are
ticking away.
The only thing I can think of is unsanity's 'APE', audio hijack pro
getting in the way,
Regards
Ian

I think that Cyclops doesn't like having two instances open, which is
effectively what you are doing when you open the 'help' file.

Of course not; that would be a Bicyclops.
(With apologies to the Beatles.)
This is true, although it shouldn't crash. I'm looking into it.

Thanks,
I've tried interting the cyclops instance, open help, and delete the
patch instance, switch back to help, click settings and the crash
still happens. I'm sure the instance is still 'instantiated'.
I sent the crash log - but it has got lost in moderation.
I've zipped a copy here.

Do you have to instances of cyclops open? If so, this is a known bug,
which is fixed for the next upgrade. Thanks for your patiente.
ej
No, i only have one instance open.. No external camera connected,
trying to get it working through built in isight cam. Is this even
possible?
Thanks

It works for me (same computer). Try the following:
- start max (quit before, if needed)
- open cyclops.help directly
- press on the settings message
Does it still crash?
ej
Great! No crash here! So its the same bug, that two instances cant be
open, even though i closed first the first instance?
Anyway, works now! thanks alot!

I've posted new versions of Cyclops 1.x at the following locations:
Changes:
- There is a new warning when more than 1 Cyclops object is
instantiated, telling the user that one of their objects won't work.
- Asking for various video functions (e.g. Settings) on the non-
initialized (e.g. 2nd) object doesn't crash anymore.
