Data scraping

Beep's icon

Hello all, I've recently become interested in the use of live data feeds and would be grateful for any advice or info anyone might have. I am basically after fairly high resolution, real time data, such as the data used in this fantastic installation:

How do you get data like this from a buoy? Or data from seismic readings or internet traffic etc etc etc? Does anyone have a link to a tutorial?

Many thanks,

B.

:) i think i've found the actual buoy from the video here.

and this is the (realtime?) data

As for a tutorial or tips, just search for the (inter)national centres. Most of them have their data online. Check out pachube too btw.

Good luck,
FRid

Thanks a lot FRid, some good info there. I found the same sources for the buoy, I just can't workout how to extract the data. It doesn't look like the data is in realtime, it seems to have a sampling rate of several minutes.

The link to pachube is fantastic, just what I was looking for!

Not really real-time but still quite impressive to me. I've seen some records from other agencies and they were less detailed and less frequent. In case of the installation (which i really like btw.) i guess they average between intervals to create the fluent motion.
