DMX-USB interface not working in Max

Hi everybody, I think I have read everything on Max/MSP and DMX I could find, but can not get my DMX-USB interface working.
I have a Macbook Pro, Max7, a Sushi Nocolaudi DMX-USB interface and a Stairville DDS-405 Dimmer.

I want to connect lamps to the Stairville dimmer and control the brightness from Max. Anybody has an idea how to do that? Help is very appreciated!

I haven't seen that interface before and there is not a lot of detail about it on the website. It looks like it is designed to work with the listed software and not a lot else. You could ask if they plan to make a Max object for it, or you might be able to find out a bit more on how it works so you can make something to communicate with it, for example it might be that you can speak serial to it with the [serial] object like you can with the Enttec DMX USB Pro. Another option is that those softwares that it supports might accept OSC or MIDI communication from Max so you might be able to use it that way instead.

Of course the resident DMX expert is David Butler so hopefully he is listening, come in David...

You'd need a custom Max object in order to be able to use that interface, and none exists at the moment. Looking at that interface, it's not even supported by OLA (https://www.openlighting.org/ola/) which supports most USB DMX boxes that have a publicly available API, so I wouldn't hold your breath... As Luke says, you may possibly be able to communicate with it via the Max serial object, but you would need to know the exact details of the serial communication protocol it uses.

My advice would be to buy an Art-Net based DMX interface, such as the Enttec ODE. This will give compatibility with virtually any DMX software.

HI David:
I am recently using max 7.1 with enttec ode mk2 and try to control lighting system through a decoder, but still can't find a way to connect my dmx data with max7, seems there is no way out to connect the ode mk2 with max7?

Just wonder if there is any quick sample to prove that max7 is capable to connect the enttec ode mk2 ?
