DMX/Artnet control from Push 3 Standalone

Hello, I am trying to get my Push 3 Standalone to speak DMX. Since the Push 3 has a USB port I thought this would be a piece of cake but there’s several road blocks: First, the (serial) object anywhere in my patch makes the Push 3 complain about “missing or incompatible Max objects” and it refuses to load the project. This is quite a disappointment because officially they say that all native Max objects should run on Push 3. But this one definitely doesn’t.

Second problem is the fact that USB to DMX converters generally seem to require drivers on Linux and Windows and are not class compliant. The USB-A port on the Push 3 Standalone only works with class compliant devices.

The other option would be Artnet, I could try to hook up a USB to network adapter to the USB port and send Artnet, but I haven’t found any reliable Artnet implementation for Max and all I’ve found so far relies on externals, which are generally not supported by Push 3 standalone.

The third and my least favourite option would be to do some kind of MIDI to DMX conversion. There’s some hardware solutions for that but none of them seem very elegant and I need around 200 DMX channels so this might get ugly.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey Ralf

Did you ever figure this out?

Looking for a solution myself to control lights with Push 3 standalone.

I'm just looking for something super simple. A couple LED bars and some midi clips in ableton that tell it which colours and when. Nothing fancy. If you know of any solutions for this, I'd appreciate it!
