does anybody know how to create this sound?

I think it's made from lots of resonators and filters, but i can't find the right combination (don't know if some fm synthesis is involved)...

It's hard to tell from just an mp3, and I don't know if there is a specific or unique synthesis algorithm solely responsible for the texture and colour; that said, I think you're right that there are resonant filters creating that upper mid-range wash, and it also sounds like a very wet, layered reverb. I think identifying the 'untreated' core sample or pure-tone might be tricky, the treatment less so. Comb-filtering and AM synthesis are good starting points for the pseudo-choral/vocal colour that I can hear.

ps if there was an award for 'generating the most varied responses', this query would definitely be in the running

I think synchronous granulation of an audio file would be a good place to explore as it's brilliant for creating evolving textures.

I'm going to go with bandlimited noise + poly. lots and lots of poly.

you all take yourselves too seriously... it's really just an orchestra tuning up and put through a really crappy tape machine, either that or the goddess venus let out a long queef(are we allowed to say things like 'queef' here?)

just kidding.

nice sound, though, quite "effluvial"! (oh snapz, i know the right term!)
reminds me of Bill Laswell's ambient stuff.

sounds a bit like granular mixed with effects. that my prognosis anyhow.
i say granular because you can here a start and end in the sound, moving around.

some kind of granular resynthesis, original source material
is slowed down, probably an organ or symphonic sample.

thanks for all your bets!
I'm trying to recreate that mood: still very far, but at least I know where to start from! ;-)
