Dropping MIDI-clips directly from SessionView to M4L-Patch?

Hi,

is that possible. To draw it more precisely, I want to record midi in live but trigger playback of recorded midi from within a m4l-patch. Now I have to store/export midi to file and drop the pathname via live.drop or filedrop into max. Is there a more direct approach on this?

Thanks

can't you do it without using filepaths just by monitoring a track's clip slots and triggering them from the M4L device? What is it exactly that you want to do?

Bump.

This really is a big problem. Live.drop doesn't work with Midi Clips in Ableton. It works fine with Audio Files from the browser, Audio Clips created/recorded within Ableton, Midi Files from the browser but not Midi Clips created within Ableton (from "Slice to New Midi Track", for example).

Midi Clips created in Live need to be Exported somewhere into the Browser (you cant just drop them onto the browser because that creates a .alc file which Live.drop doesn't recognize) as a Midi File and then those can be dropped. It is a real pain.

I want to horizontally scramble (not randomize) the midi clips. When I "Slice to New Midi Track" a spoken word Audio Clip (or a drum loop), the individual slices in the generated midi clip are usually not of the same length. Some sentences (or words or drum hits) are shorter than others and they cannot overlap. Scrambling the order of these midi notes by hand is a real pain and you can't just trigger the slices every whole note because the triggered audio slices will overlap (or there will be large gaps of silence). Is there some sort of midi scrambler in Live that I'm unaware of?

The only other work around that I can think of is to Record the "Slice to New Midi" clip into my midi scrambler, which is the same, but different, kind of pain.

I was really hoping Max8/Live10 would fix this.

Drag and drop menu can trigger the LOM in order to find the selected clip, then get all the notes in the clip. Would it work?

Using an observer you can get the notes just by selecting the clip.

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.
