DSP ON Soundblaster issue!!

Hey guys, I'm having trouble getting max/msp to work with my new pc.
I've been using Max on my macintosh for about 10 months now and it's been going wonderfully, but I recently built my own pc, and things haven't been as clean.
Well, really the only issue is the DSP status.
My pc is wonderfully powerful: Intel i7 quad core running 3.33 ghertz, 8 gigs of ram and a Soundblaster X-Fi sound card.
So there should be ample room to work with. BUT, whenever I turn on the DSP, my cpu usage jumps up to 100% and everything starts lagging like crazy. I'm imagining the issue is with the sound card, but I could be wrong. The only problem is... I don't know where to start with this problem!
    Any tips?

the driver I’m using is “ad_asio Creative ASIO” other drivers on the list include “ad_asio ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver”, “ad_asio Generic Low Latency ASIO driver” “ad_directsound” “ad_mme” “NonRealTime” “ad_rewire” and “Live,” but these all either Don’t work, or give me the same issue, where CPU utilization jumps through the roof for no apparent reason.
