Empty replies in forum?

EMV's icon

I noticed while searching the forum that there are quite a lot of older posts where some replies show no text.

An example (the bottom two replies are empty):
https://cycling74.com/forums/detecting-data-type

It happens more with older posts by Stefan Tiedje so it seems.

Also, I feel that the search function doesn't return all the results that it should. I don't have a specific example, but in general I'm having a harder time finding stuff on this new forum than on the old one.
Contributing to this phenomenon is the worse usability of this new forum compared to the old one.

Well ,

The post of Stefan Tiedje is actually a year old!

Now empty messages can't be issues incidentally, you get the following message:

You need to actually submit some content!

I've noticed this too, and there've been quite a few topics addressing similar search issues that confirm something fishy's going on with the forum. Hopefully it'll be sorted soon.

@xanadu - I don't see why the date of the post should be a factor?

Hmm, no 'quote' button..

@xanadu:
Regardless of anyone's post being a year old, or five years old, it may still contain valuable information. Especially in the case of Stefan Tiedje, as he is one of the more knowledgeable people on this forum.

Other than some bug or error in the setup, there is no reason why posts should be empty.

I don't send empty posts...

The original post was:

> attached.

I don't know why the censor authorities think its dangerous...;-)

I just see, I attached a patch as well. This means the forum might cut even the more important parts...
I don't know when the change to forum only happened. Before that change I definitely would have posted with my mail client, but I believe it was shortly after the change...
I could find it because I have my lists local in Thunderbird, a forum just isn't reliable...

the complete post was:

A list starts with a number. [a 1] is the message a with a parameter 1 attached.
Max is built around messages, any symbol could be a message. Thats why it is not a list.

You could create an abstraction which routes according to its length:

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

Thanks for providing the missing info.

Although my comment wasn't so much about the actual content of that particular post, it was more about the fact that stuff is missing or broken on this new forum, which really compromises its usefulness in my opinion.

The forum used to be a treasure chest filled with answers and knowledge, but now there are holes in it that not only makes the treasures disappear but it will also prevent people from putting their effort in to help other people.

(I'm glad that the upload files-function is back by the way, a step in the right direction!)

Hi EMV - thanks for your feedback. We're aware of the issues with some past content not being imported properly, and we're working to fix all the migration bugs.

I have tried to post a topic a couple of times today and it appears empty in the forum every time. Strange ?

Cycling '74's icon

Hi Thomas - sorry for the delay in responding. What you're seeing is strange. We worked on the forum software a bit this morning - do you still see the same behaviour now?

Hi Ben
