Equivalent of LH_MidiIn/MidiOut for PC?
Does anyone here know of an external (or reliable workaround) that would allow a pc user to access h/w or virtual MIDI ports from within a Max for Live device? I've been using Bidule as a VST within live to accomplish this on Live tracks, but that won't help me if I want to use Max. Even if the solution requires a lot of customization/configuration for a specific computer, that's OK. Really searched hard for this, but no luck.
Thanks for reading.
With the Max object [vst~] you can use Bidule also as VST in a M4L device. Actually I've done this myself on Mac before the lh_midiin/out externals were released.
Wasn't aware Max for Live could host VST's. Thanks. It's definitely an option, I'll play around with it & see where it gets me. I love Bidule, it's my swiss army knife, & I'm very comfortable w/ it for all manner of arcane MIDI wickedness. But Max opens up the LOM, and will allow me to do things that Bidule can't re: fine-grained control of Live. I'm just starting w/ Max, and I'm assuming that it must be at least as versatile for MIDI manipulation as Bidule, but I could be wrong. If it is, then Bidule is kind of overkill if I'm only going to use it to mux/de-mux MIDI port/channel data within Max objects. I'm thinking that there has to be a more straightforward (less RAM/cpu intensive) way to do this natively (mostly...) in Max w/ java/mxj, but I'm not sure where to start...
Here is an approach with java.
Outstanding! Thanks broc, that is exactly what I needed, and, since it has a lot of source code, should also be very educational for a java noob such as myself. Look like he found a bug in Java as well, re: sysex
Just what I need. Thanks
I know it's been a couple of years, I'm wondering if anyone has gotten this to work after the Max editor is closed? It works for me until I close the Max editor, leading me to believe that it works in Max but not Max4Live, or Ableton changed something in 9.xx to break it.
Thanks for any feedback.
